Counterfeit goods that infringe Swiss trade marks were mainly sent by post. The postal route accounted for 75% of all customs seizures.

In 2021, the estimated value of global trade in counterfeit products infringing Swiss intellectual property rights amounted to CHF 4.47 billion. This is equivalent to 1.3% of total Swiss exports.

From 2017 to 2019, 54% of counterfeit products infringing Swiss intellectual property rights were purchased by customers who knew they were counterfeit. Deliberate purchases of counterfeit Swiss products are steadily increasing: in the previous survey period from 2011 to 2016, the figure was 52.3%.
